The Addy, Walbuck, McGee, Kennedy, Mulbah, Sumo, and Harris families regret to announce the passing of their beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and cousin, Rebecca Tetama Kennedy Addy. This sad event occurred on May 26, 2026, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center in Monrovia, Liberia.
Rebecca was born to the union of David L. Kennedy, Sr. and Marie E. Brown, both of whom predeceased her.
Rebecca Tetama began her educational journey at J. L. Gibson Elementary School and later attended the Assembly of God School during her junior high school years. She continued her studies at the William V. S. Tubman High School, where her intelligence, confidence and leadership qualities earned her the title of Miss William V. S. Tubman High School Queen; a distinction she proudly held for one year.
Her pursuit of knowledge and creativity extended beyond her homeland. While in Ghana, Rebecca attended a School of Design and Decoration, further developing her artistic talents and passion for design.
Professionally, Rebecca worked with MEB Boutique and the Liberia Youth and Sports Ministry in Monrovia before relocating to Ghana, where she resided until her passing. In addition to managing her own private business endeavors in Ghana, she volunteered and worked with the Alvin Boy Nonprofit Organization, which provides assistance to people in need, especially children. Her generosity and compassion were truly admirable.
Rebecca had a remarkable heart for others. No matter how little she had, she always found a way to open her home and shared with those around her. She embodied the kindness, love, and caring spirit of her late mother. Many nieces and nephews affectionately referred to her as their second mom.
Rebecca affectionately known as RB or Tetama by her children, familyand friends, leaves to cherish her memory her hobby, Tettie Augustine Addy, whom she united with in marriage in November 1995; her four loving children: George A. Addy-J-Mack (Maria), Charmon Kush Addy, Teta Addy and Monroe Kwaku Addy. She is also survived by her two grandchildren: Clinton Kwaku Asante and Jeremiah Addy.
Rebecca leaves behind her siblings: Williametta Lawrence-Okon (Chris), Enos Kennedy (Robertta), Christiana Kennedy, Gbagalo Kennedy, Telewoda Kennedy (Diamon), Malaveley Kennedy, Mulbah Kennedy and Flora Kennedy. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews, relativesand friends both at home and throughout the diaspora.
Preceding her in death were her siblings: David L. Kennedy, Jr.-aka Sankai (Florence), Younger Kennedy-Willie (Willie) and Mamawolie O. Kennedy.
At a young age, Rebecca was baptized at the First Baptist Church in New Georgia Township, Liberia. Although she later moved abroad, her devotion to her church was evident during her recent visit to Liberia in May 2026 for the wedding of her son, George A. “J-Mack” Addy. During that visit, she made it a priority to worship at her home church. Just two weeks later, while still in Liberia, she peacefully transitioned from this life.
While residing in Accra, Ghana, Rebecca became an active member of the Royal House Chapel International. In 2020, the church honored her as “Mother of the Year.” She faithfully served in the women’s ministry and participated in several other church groups.
Rebecca was a devoted Christian whose faith in God was unwavering. Many of her siblings relied on her for spiritual encouragement and prayer. For over five years, she faithfully participated in the family’s WhatsApp Morning Devotion, joining every morning from Monday through Saturday. She was affectionately known as the family’s prayer warrior. Tetama often called family members and friends simply to check on them, offer words of encouragement, or pray with them. Her faith was profound and her trust in God never wavered.
She was humble, compassionate and always full of laughter. Her beautiful smile will forever remain in our memories. She was often the peacemaker, adviser and family news reporter all at the same time, yet she still wanted to be treated as the baby of the family—”mama’s lastbaby”!
Rebecca Tetama Kennedy Addy possessed a unique and irreplaceable spirit that cannot easily be replicated. Her presence, love, prayers and caring nature and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. RB will be remembered for her elegance, determination and the positive impact she made on the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy of excellence and perseverance will continue to inspire family, friends, classmates and all whose lives she touched. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
May her soul rest in eternal peace!
