Abraham Jerry Campbell Sr. was born on Sunday October 17, 1948 in Harbel, Liberia to John and Tete Campell, and he was raised by his maternal grandmother. Abraham graduated from William V.S. Tubman High School. After graduation he was employed at Roberts International Airport in Harbel, Liberia and worked there for many years until he relocated to the United States of America in the early 80’s. Upon his arrival in the USA, he settled in Trenton, NJ where he resided until his death.
Abraham was an original founding member of the African United Methodist Church (AUMC) and The Voice of Africa Choir (VOA), and a church historian. Before finding a permanent church location, his home on East State Street in Trenton, NJ was always open for prayer meetings, church services, and The Voice of Africa choir practices under the leadership of Reverend Daniel Grimes Gueh, founder of the African United Methodist Church of Trenton, NJ. He was an active member of the church and he held many other titles and positions in the church. He was always the first person at the 1201 Greenwood Ave. church location on Sundays, and would set up and have the music playing before service started. In addition to singing in the choir, he also played the bongos in church. Abraham was a strong supporter of the AUMC Indigenous Ministry Choir and he was always there to help when needed. In 2002, he was honored as AUMC father of the year, a title that he held with pride, dignity and respect.
Abraham was a humble, outgoing, resourceful, and helpful member of the Liberian community in Trenton NJ. Apart from helping in the community, he was also an active member of the Liberian Community Association of Central NJ, and The United Bassa Organization in the Americas (UNIBOA). He helped many people by introducing them to various car dealers in the community when they needed help buying cars. For many years he housed many people in his home. He also helped people find jobs and even referred people to work at his job. All this and more shows how selfless he was as a person.
Abraham loved to drive and travel with the VOA choir as they visited other churches around the country. He was the unofficial GPS for the VOA during their many travels. He loved taking vacations with his family. He also had a love of collecting and listening to music, watching Kung Fu movies and Western/ Cowboy shows and movies.
Abraham held many professions, but being a Security Officer was his main career. He worked at Bank of America for over 35 years through various security companies until his retirement in 2023, due to health issues.
In 1987 he met his loving wife Loretta and they later got married in 1994. This union was blessed with 3 children: Brianna, LeeAnna, and Abraham Campbell Jr.
On the evening of Thursday of July 9, 2026, Abraham Jerry Campbell Sr. peacefully departed from this life. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Tete Campbell, his late brother, and grandmother, Uncle Francis and Aunt Sarah Helb. Abraham leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Loretta Campbell and his children: Joshua Campbell, Abraham K. Campbell, Sando Campbell , Zuannah Campbell, Rebecca Tete Campbell, Brianna Campbell, LeeAnna Campbell, and Abraham Campbell Jr, his grandchildren who are in the USA : Michael Lloyd Guess ,DeSean Trocon KIing, Lulu Diamond Pratt several grandchildren who reside in Liberia, his aunts, uncles,cousins, in-laws (The Millers), nieces and nephews, his AUMC, Bank of America, Firestone families,and his friends.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith in the Lord. His love for his family, his church, and the community. His legacy lives on in the many lives that he touched. May his soul rest in peace.
