The Freeman, Nyankoon and Makola Families announce with profound regret the passing of our dear beloved
Michael Lionel Freeman.
Michael Lionel Freeman, affectionately known as “Opah” and “Mike,” was born on June 6, 1975, in Yekepa, Liberia. His early years were shaped by both the warmth of his homeland and the challenges that soon followed. During his teenage years, as a result of the Liberian Civil War. Michael relocated to Texas, United States, to reunite with his mother, Maybelline Nyankoon. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with resilience, growth, and determination.
Michael attended Lamar High School, where he began building the foundation for his future. Driven by a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed, he later pursued technical training at Lincoln Technical Institute, specializing as an air conditioning (AC) technician. His ambition did not stop there. Michael went on to establish himself as a successful entrepreneur, founding his own trucking and logistics business.
A natural leader and mentor, Michael was deeply committed to uplifting others. He took pride in guiding and supporting young Liberian entrepreneurs, helping many of them start and grow their own trucking businesses. His generosity, wisdom, and willingness to share knowledge left a lasting impact on those he mentored and the broader community.
Michael was a devoted family man. He was the proud father of Trevon Freeman, who made him a proud grandfather to, Analah Desire Freeman. Shortly before 2012, he married his beloved wife, Agnes Freeman, the mother of his four children.
His love for his family was unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to provide for and support them.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Michael had a deep passion for soccer. He was actively involved in his soccer community, both as a player and a coach, where he inspired teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie. Special Advisor to the current President, Mr..Nathaniel Goun President, Liberia Community Association/Dallas-fort Worth..
In his later years, Michael quietly battled colon cancer, a struggle he carried with remarkable strength and privacy, unbeknownst to many of his family members and close friends. His courage during this time reflected the same resilience that defined his life.
Michael will be remembered as a pillar in the Liberian community, a dedicated mentor, a loving husband and father, and a loyal friend. His legacy of leadership, kindness, and empowerment will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
