Sunrise: May 22, 1947 — Sunset: July 14, 2026
The family announces with profound sorrow the passing of Mrs. Victoria Sao Kesselly Monger (née Victoria Sao Kesselly) on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 5:10 p.m., at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was 79 years old, and in her final hours was not alone — surrounded at her bedside by her son Calvin and his wife Wokie; her grandchildren Cyril, Calvin Jr., and Calli; and her great-grandson, Camari, the youngest of four generations gathered in one room.
Born on May 22, 1947, in Paynesville, Montserrado County, Liberia, she was the daughter of the late Retired General William Binyah Kesselly and the late Korpo Kamara. Victoria devoted her life to the care of others as a Registered Nurse, rising to serve as Head Nurse of the Pediatric Ward at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, a post she held until her retirement. She spent her working life at the bedsides of other people’s children with skill and tenderness; at the last, her own were at hers.
She was united in marriage to the late Alois Doveld Monger in 1975, with whom she shared two children.
She was preceded in death by her companion, Alois Monger; her parents, General William Binyah Kesselly and Korpo Kamara; her brother, Dr. Edward Binyah Kesselly, founder of the Unity Party of Liberia; and several of her siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Her children — Calvin Archibald Johnson (Wokie); Alois Doveld Monger II; and Shirley Wilhelmina “Musukulah” Monger;
Her grandchildren — Cyril Johnson, Calvin Johnson Jr., Calli Angie Johnson, and Alessa “Alie” Désirée Monger;
Her great-grandson — Camari Johnson;
Her siblings — Musu; Maxwell; Angie; Victor; and Doris;
Her nieces and nephews — Binyah, Varnii, Jallah, and Varflay; Diamond “DeDe”; MaKulah and Victor; and a host of other family and friends in Liberia and the United States.
