Mr. Boniface Sayon Goe , a beloved community figure sadly left our world on the 25th of October 2024 at the University of Maryland Capital Region Hospital after a life lived richly in service and kindness. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who were fortunate to know him. A resident of the Washington, DC Metropolitan region since 1977. Mr. Goe was born on November 27th, 1949 in a small farming village of Topoh, Barclayville, Liberia . As a student of St. Peter’s Claver Primary school in Barclayville, Boniface was eager to pursue higher education and travel the world. Boniface studied hard and became a 1968 graduate of St. Francis High School in Cape Palmas, Liberia before embarking on a new journey to achieve higher education. To attain his dream of becoming a college student, Boniface Goe worked as a farmer, fisherman, and trader of lappas (African fabrics). Canoeing along the treacherous West African coast (as a mean of transport in those days) to purchase lappas in Nigeria before selling them in Ghana and Liberia to pay for his college education and the education of many siblings he left behind in Liberia. For as much as he wanted to succeed in life he wanted his family most importantly to become successful as well.
A 1971 graduate of SNAPS College of Accountancy in Cape Coast, Ghana. Boniface Goe worked for the Ghanaian government as an Accountant and an Account Receivable Manager at Scanship in Takoradi. Before deciding to return to Liberia and join the workforce in which he became the Chief Financial Officer of LAMCO, Liberia’s largest mining company at that time. Working at LAMCO enabled him to live in many parts of Liberia including but not limited to Yekepa and Buchanan and was able to attend training workshops in Sweden, LAMCO main headquarters. Before traveling to Takoradi, Ghana one last time before meeting and betrothing Elizabeth Teah, a young bookeeper for a British based shipping company. Teah left Ghana and traveled to Liberia where they had their first son, Boniface Martu.
Wanting more in life, Mr. Boniface Goe first emigrated to the United States of America in 1977 followed by Elizabeth in 1978. Where they established a home and had Geeken
Wainie (who will later become his caretaker) and Martu Goe.
Mr. Boniface Goe has had many careers in America from working as a dishwasher at Blackies Restaurant, Accountant for Marriott Hotels, Staff Accountant at the Embassy of Liberia in Washington, DC, Taxi cab driver and Teacher Assistant at Prince George’s County Public Schools to name a few.
A lover of his Catholic faith, family and his community, Boniface found beauty in life’s simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wainie Goe-Ahmed, President of The Liberian Heritage Society. An organization set up by Wainie to teach the world what was most important to her father the Promotion and Preservation of Liberian historical heritage.
Predeceased by his first daughter Goedee earlier this year. Mr. Boniface Goe leaves behind Nyantee, from a previous relationship, Four children and eight grandchildren from Elizabeth Teah and a brother by the name of Daniel Martu.
