With profound sadness and heartfelt sorrow, the Johnson,Warsaw, Bracewell, Mason and Clarke families announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grand mother, sister, aunt, teacher, entrepreneur, and matriarch, Lydia Amy Warsaw Johnson, who peacefully transitioned in the early hours of Monday June 1, 2026 in Harlem, NY. She was born on February 18, 1939, in Arthington, Liberia, to the late Fredrick B. Warsaw and Louise Carter Warsaw. As the eldest of 11 children, she was the pillar of strength, wisdom and guidance of her family throughout her life.
Amy was united in marriage to Dr. J.C. Johnson Jr, MD. and together they shared 49 years of love, partnership and devotion to family.
She leaves to cherish memories of her children: Delbert K. Johnson (Pandora), Jody C. Johnson (Gator), Janjay C. Johnson, Joseph Johnson (Esther), Dorothy Johnson, Boye Johnson and her surrogate children Dr. Moses B. F Massaquoi Sr, MD., Melvin Mulbah and Leona Menyongar (John),19 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren; her siblings Lade, Gladys (Rtd. Capt Toni Ajado) and her beloved Sister- in- laws Arlene Johnson George, Renee Reeves Warsaw and Anna Toe Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick B. Warsaw and Louise Carter Warsaw; her husband Dr. J.C Johnson Jr, MD., her beloved siblings, Anna (her twin sister),Scott (Boy Blue),Vrylyn (VY), Ferrington, Augusta (Carter), Jetty, Alfreda, and Harmon, in-laws Capt. Arnold R. Johnson, Judith Y. Johnson Sangotte, Albert Johnson, Christina Johnson Ammons, Prosepina Johnson and P. Fallih George, Jr.
Amy’s life was defined by faith, service, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her family, church (St. Peters Lutheran, Sinkor, Liberia and Transfiguration Lutheran Church, Harlem, NY) and community. Her wisdom, kindness, and enduring legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
