The Kemokai family announces with deep regret the sudden death of Sulay R. Kemokai Sr. This sad event occurred at his home in Chicago, Illinois on January 9, 2023.
Sulay was born on September 24, 1954, in Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia, and spent his early years in Liberia and Sierra Leone. He relocated to the US in 1975, where he remained until his untimely death.
Sulay graduated from Christ the King High School in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and matriculated to Olive Harvey College in Chicago, where he obtained his associate degree.
He worked at the Northshore University Health System, formerly the Evanston Hospital in the Accounts Department for over 30 years and retired on June 30th, 2023. He was an active member of OLCI, the Liberian Association in Chicago, Illinois.
Sulay was married to Miatta Stubblefield and this union was blessed with Sulay Jr. He later married Tina Ross Kemokai.
Sulay leaves to mourn his loss, his son Sulay R. Kemokai Jr. (Maria), five grandchildren Quadry, Oiyana, Sulay Kemokai III, Ava, and Ayden Kemokai. He also leaves to mourn his loss the Kemokai family, over twenty brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews, the Liberian Community in Chicago, his NorthShore family and a host of family and friends in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Canada, Europe, and the United States.
