Precious Lafita Montgomery was born on August 27th, 1963 to the union of Lafayette Montgomery and Elizabeth “Honey” Montgomery in Liberia, West Africa. She attended Ricks Institute boarding school in Liberia and was a proud member of the esteemed group of ladies “Foxy Girls”. She was given the nickname “Mongo” growing up, short for Montgomery. Precious migrated to the United States in 1981 and lived in Philadelphia where she finished her final year of high school at John W. Hallahan Girls’ High School.
Precious secured a career with Delta Airlines (formerly Northwest Airlines) in August of 1990 affording her the ability to travel well and often over the years. She found fulfillment in becoming a motivated entrepreneur, owning multiple rental properties and founding Wash & Press, a laundromat and dry cleaners in the heart of North Minneapolis amongst other black owned businesses. Upon her father’s passing she took on the honorable task of overseeing her namesake family business Montgomery Cleaners in Liberia. Precious loved gardening, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren cooking and feeding them “African rice” as they would call it. Precious’ family and friends will remember her as being a dedicated mother, a cherished family member and a loyal friend.
Precious leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters Watchen Marshall- Campbell, Kaimah Marshall, Rolanda Olume Blay, her grandchildren Kairo Marshall, Aveya Woods and Surae Woods. Her favorite aunt Louise “sister” Fofana, seven siblings including sisters Joye Collins- Phillips, Josephine Nylander, Wede Sheriff plus a host of other relatives and friends.
