With heavy hearts, the Essel and Davies families announce the passing of their beloved mother, sister, and aunt, Jemima Essel Davies. She passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Tucker, Georgia, USA.
Jemima Alivah Essel Davies was born on June 4, 1948, to Isaac Kwesi Essel and Weabah Nyonnah. She was the youngest of five sisters. Her parents and four older sisters of blessed memory preceded her in death: Maa Portiah, Mrs. Isabella Addo, Mrs. Elizabeth Esi Mends, Ms. Korku Francis McClain, and one brother Boka McClain.
Jemima’s education started in Liberia at Bromely Mission and St. Theresa’s Convent, and she completed high school at Monrovia College in 1968. In 1973, she moved to the United States to start a new chapter in her life.
Known affectionately as Aunty J, Jemima was a joyful and lively presence in the family, bringing together people of all ages. She deeply loved her family and was always the heart of every gathering, never missing an opportunity to take photos to mark the occasion.
She lived her life with curiosity, love, and care, always standing strong in her beliefs. Even during her illness, Jemima showed incredible bravery, continuing to spread love and care to everyone around her.
