The Thiam, Stevenson, Wordsworth, Freeman, Woodson, Urey and Deputie families sadly announce the homegoing of our beloved Gwendolyn Eugenia Stevenson-Thiam. She was also affectionately known as Teta Gwen and Mimi.
This sad event happened on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 12:20 ante-meridiem, at the Elmhurst Hospital, in Elmhurst, New York.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Hadja Thiam, and her sons, Abdoulaye Thiam and wife, Dr. Melinda Thiam, and Ousmane Thiam and wife, Kim Thiam. Gwendolyn’s legacy also lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Tsedey (Honey) Pretto, Farah Thiam, Anaya Thiam, and Mickaela Thiam, and Alissa Nucum. Gwendolyn is also survived by her brother-in-law Hannington Musinguzi, nieces Karen and Nancy Musinguzi. She is survived by a host of cousins including William E. Wordsworth and Adlai Benjamin Wordsworth, and members of the Wordsworth, Stevenson, Ivey, Freeman, Urey, Woodson, and Deputie families and foster brothers and sisters, close friends, and church families.
A wake and funeral service to honor Gwendolyn’s life will be held on September 14, 2024, at the Sixth Presbyterian Church, located at 5413 16th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20011.
The wake will be held from 8:00 ante-meridiem to 10:30 ante-meridiem at the Sixth Presbyterian Church and the funeral service will follow from 11:00 ante-meridiem to 12:30 post-meridiem.
A repast will immediately follow the funeral service at the Sixth Presbyterian Church.
The interment will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:30 ante-meridiem at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, located at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906.
