It is with heavy hearts that we the Gittens, Gerring and Eastman families announce the passing of Lydia Victoria K. Gittens, who left us on June 25th, 2024. Lydia was a beloved mother, sister aunt, cousin and friend, cherished by all who knew her for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Lydia’s life was a testament to the power of love and resilience. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family and friends, always putting others before herself. Her warmth and compassion touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lionel Rufus Gittens and Ellen Gerring Gittens. Her sister Martha Z. Smith and her brothers Joseph and Lionel Gittens. She is survived by her daughter Kohnbe V. Maxwell, her adopted daughters Louise Gittens, Ellen Gardner, Martha Diggs, her sister Rachel Gittens-Eastman and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives, who will continue to honor her memory and carry forward her values of love, compassion, and dedication.
A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held on July 13th at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte NC at 10:30 AM. We invite all who knew and loved Lydia to join us in remembering her remarkable life and sharing the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lydia’s name, continuing her legacy of giving and supporting causes close to her heart.
May Lydia’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
