With heavy hearts and gratitude to God for her life, the TOLBERT, FAHNBULLEH, WILES, WOODS-BROWNELL FAMILIES, announces the passing of Fametta Myrna Tolbert McKinney on October 11, 2026. She was the daughter of Daniel F. Tolbert, Sr. & Myrna Rose Wiles Tolbert.
Fametta’s childhood in Liberia was interrupted by the 1980 Coup which required the 6 year old and her sister Mina to move to Las Palmas, Canary Islands for 2 years. Fametta learned to speak Spanish in the care of her God-parents Joseph & Mila Calero. In 1982 Fametta and Mina were reunited with their family in Hartsdale, New York where she attended the Sacred Heart School for elementary, and completed her high school education at the Kent School in Kent, Connecticut, USA.
Fametta continued to pursue her education at Spelman College in Atlanta where she graduated in 1996. After graduation from college, Fametta met and married Mark David McKinney. On account of her passion for cooking and hospitality, Fametta immersed herself in a variety of hospitality businesses.
Fametta was a loving, kind, thoughtful, sweet and affectionate person whose absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends and colleagues. And though predeceased by her father Daniel F. Tolbert, Sr., sister Annemarie Tolbert and husband Mark McKinney, she leaves behind her mother Mrs. Myrna Wiles Tolbert, her siblings; Daniel Jr. (Mabel), Rosemarie, Konah (Andy), Mina (David), Beatrice and Luakena (Lily), nieces & nephews; Myrna, Zina, Zaiya, Aidan, Amisa, Danny, Jayden, Zahari, and Kaia as well as many cousins in Liberia and around the world.
Her warmth, generosity, and love will remain with all who knew her.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.
