The Chieh, Agbodjan, Jappah, Snyder, Varghese, Jallah, Simmonds, Johnson and Pupoe families announce with deep regrets the home-going of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and mentor, Honorable D. Dueh Chieh, Sr., Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary – the former Liberian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Republics of Benin and Togo, and former Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps in Lagos, Nigeria on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts, after a protracted period of illness.
This information also goes to the members of the Jeke Dueh Chieh family of Grandcess, Grand Kru County; the Giyanraboe Club of West Point and New Kru Town; the KRAO Association of Massachusetts; members and former officials of the Kru Coast Territory Development Association; members and former officials of the Bameh Football Club of Monrovia; the Wotoyeniyu Clan of Togoville, Togo; the S. Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church Family and the residents of the Old Zoo Road, Lakpasi in Liberia.
“D. Dueh” as he was affectionately called, was born unto the union of Jeke Dueh and Putu Doe Chieh of Grandcess, Kru Coast Territory, now Grand Kru County on October 3, 1934. His mother predeceased him at age 9 and his father and best friend predeceased him in 1970.
D. Dueh held several ministerial distinctions, including, Private Secretary to President W. V. S. Tubman; Deputy Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Director of the Cabinet under President W. R. Tolbert, Jr.; and Deputy Minister of State for Presidential Affairs under President Samuel K. Doe.
He leaves to mourn his loss 11 great-grand children, 19 grand-children and several children, including, David Dueh, Jr., (Anita), Patrick Nyinprun (Elizabeth), Christopher Tugbeh (Olivia), Antoinette Welleh (Nkole), Nehemiah Wotorgie (Yassah), Steven Kikeh, and Delecia Chieh. He was predeceased by his wife, Comfort K. Chieh, his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Chieh-Johnson, his son-in-law, Benjamin K. Johnson, Sr., his son Emmanuel “OP Dueh” Chieh, and his grandson, Lafayette Michael Chieh.
