The Kiawu, Knuckles, Nelson, Walker and Cole families, and the peoples of Careysburg City, Liberia, mourn the loss of Mother Robertetta Knuckles Kiawu (Aunty Bush) in her 90th year. This sad event occurred on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Hawah Kiawu in Virginia, USA.
Robertetta’s family and community are grateful to God for her genuine Faith, her life of service and generosity exemplified by how she shared her bountiful earthly harvest and talents. Her legacy will be forever linked to the advancement of secondary education at Kakata Booker Washington Institute (BWI), the Liberian Ministry of Education, and at the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
She is predeceased by two infant sons, Timothy Kiawu and Sangba Kiawu, her parents, Honorable Robert E. Knuckles, Sr., and Williametta Nelson Knuckles of Careysburg City, as well as by all her siblings. She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband of 66 years, James A. Kiawu, Sr.; her devoted children, Hawah Kiawu, James Kiawu Jr. (Ruth), Tonia Kiawu, and Alvin Kiawu; several grandchildren, Eugene Bedell, Eugenie Bedell Selimaj (Albi), Varsay Kiawu, Cornell Lake, Malik Julius, Verdant Julius, Jeremy Julius, Jasmin Kiawu, Kylil Kiawu, Sydney Kiawu and Avidan Kiawu; three great grandchildren, Eli Kiawu, Jase Kiawu, and Edoni Selimaj. Mourning her loss are numerous family members, including nieces, nephews, maternal and paternal cousins, friends, and the descendants of Robert (Bob) and Mary Knuckles, who were repatriates to Liberia between the 16th and 19th centuries.
