Mrs. Williametta Holt Rostron, age 85 of 1435 Ebinport Road, died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Piedmont Medical Hospital in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held on November 5, 2022 at 10 am at College Park Baptist Church, 1209 Eisenhower Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Mrs. Rostron, affectionately known as Ms. Williametta or Aunty Etta or Aunty Metta, was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa unto the union of Walter William Holt and Amanda Worjoloh McClain Holt.
Her early education began at St. Theresa’s Convent where she remained through high school. She subsequently pursued further education at Leigh Sherman Secretarial School and became a secretary to the dean of the W. V.S. Tubman Teacher’s College, Dr. Mary Antoinette Brown Sherman in the 1970s. She was also an administrative assistant to the controller of the University of Liberia, Mr. Francis Johnson. At the Ministry of Education, the last place she worked with Dr. Rosalitta Roberts as a Project Education Field Supervisor for schools, she was able to travel to several counties before the start of the 1989 Liberian Civil War. She really loved that job. Unfortunately, she had to leave Liberia for the United States of America in January,1991. She and her late husband, Charles Rostron, lived in Connecticut, California, Tennessee and Ohio before finally settling in Rock Hill, South Carolina where they became volunteers with SIM (Sudan Interior Mission) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She and her husband, Charles, were able to travel to many countries for missionary service during their lifetime. The last places they traveled to were Mongolia and Nigeria as SIM missionaries. They lived in Mongolia for a year and in Nigeria for five years.
Our mom was blessed in holy matrimony to the late Archiebald Garga-Richardson Sr. in 1955 and that union was blessed with six children: Africanus (Thelma), Alieo, Archibald Jr., Masnoh, Madia (Himie-Budu) and Marwine (Giorgio). Later, in 1978, she married Professor Charles Richard Rostron and was blessed with an addition of five children: Lucy (Bill), Ruthie (JD), Dottie (Joe Ben), Merry (Bill), and Joe (Becky). Together, they had a total of 11 children and 3 bonus children: Joetta (Paul), Allen (Marion) and Alvin. She gained another daughter, Rina Mathies Russ, who has been a wonderful friend to her.
Four of their children predeceased her, Ruthie, Dottie, Lucy and Joetta, along with two grandchildren, Jehu and Charlene. She was also predeceased by her siblings Alfred Holt, George Holt, Rebecca Holt Harmon, Solomon Holt, Walter Holt Jr., Deborah Stubberfield-Morgan and Joyce Holt.
She leaves to mourn her loss, eight children, Africanus (Thelma), Alieo, Archibald Jr., Masnoh, Madia (Himie-Budu) and Marwine (Giorgio), Merry (Bill), and Joe (Becky); four siblings, Mabel Holt Brown, Clarice Masnah Shannon, Elizabeth Holt, and Joshua Holt; 39 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and many others who became her children.
Mom lived a full and blessed life. She was loved by not only her children, but by her relatives, friends and all who came to know her. We are so happy she left this world the way she wanted to, in relatively good health until she passed on. We thank God for blessing her immensely. She is dwelling in the presence of the Almighty right now with her loved ones. She is already dearly missed. May her soul rest in everlasting peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.
