She later moved to Monrovia and lived with her aunt, Malvenia Wallace, while she attended the Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts (TNIMA). She graduated in 1968 with a nursing degree. With Josie leading the way, Sister Margaret traversed the tangled subway system and bustling city streets several days a week to take courses at the CUNY Graduate Center in Midtown Manhattan. She received a Master Degree of Social Work to fulfill her dream of helping other visually impaired persons.
