The Sallah, Brown, Johnson, Jupiter, and Bright families regret to announce the passing of our beloved Sunday Juah Sallah , which sad event occurred on September 5, 2023 after a brief illness.
Sunday J. Sallah was born on June 3, 1934 in Pleebo, Liberia. He served as Inventory Manager, for Jacquelyn’s on Randall Street, owned by Marie Davies-Johnson. Sunday was the owner’s most trusted employee and confidant. He was extremely organized, keeping Jacquelyn’s running like a well-oiled machine.
Following the civil war in Liberia, Sunday agreed to relocate to the United States and continue to work for Mrs. Johnson in the U.S.A. After Mrs. Johnson’s death in 2000, Sunday chose to remain in the U.S. rather than return home so that he could continue to provide for his family in Liberia. He retired from McDonalds at Four Corners where he was affectionately known as “Pops.” He was highly regarded as one of the most reliable employees and received several commendations from the franchise owner.
Sunday was married to the late Jessie C.C. Sallah, who predeceased him in 2021. He is survived by five children, Jasper, Beweh, Catherine, Lemuel, and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by Sallah M. Sallah, Julia Sallah Sarkor, and Prince Sallah. His adopted children include Maima, Obadiahh and the late Cecelia Sallah. Sunday also leaves behind grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was particularly proud of his granddaughter, Lorena Sarkor. He wanted to make sure that she graduated from college before his death and she did so, just a few days before his demise.
Services will be held on Saturday October 7, 2023 at the St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Adelphi, Maryland.
Sunday was a gentle giant who will forever live in our hearts. RIP
