The Smith, Saab, and Reeves families, with heavy hearts, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, brother, uncle and cousin, Cllr. Carlos B.Z. Smith, Sr. in his 77th year. This peaceful transition occurred on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at his residence, in Randallstown, Maryland.
Carlos, Dad, Daddy, Papa, Carleto, Papay, Grandpa, Buk, Baby Cartus, Cllr. Smith, as he was affectionately called, was the heartbeat of our family. A good-hearted, fun-loving man who spread kindness wherever he went. He was a peacemaker with a passion for people and politics. We remember his free spirit, and his love for taking care of others. As a distinguished family man, he will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love remains with us.
Cllr. Smith is survived by his loving and devoted wife Lorice Gloria Saab, his children Precious Carolyn, LaToya Nicole, Stephen George (Rebecca), Carlos Bromfield, Gjanje Louise (Ryan), Wilmot Debrick (Sherrie), Cyril Bromfield, Jamaal Anwar, Keyna Serwah, Wilmona Emerald and Carena Odell; his sisters and brothers Bismack Reeves(Yvonne), Robertha Reeves, James Henrique Smith (Chichi), Carolyn Smith Amegashie, Jamesetta Smith Allen(Anthony), Joyce Smith Cooke, Wynston Smith(Cheryl), Rena Smith Jarrett, Kenneth Smith (Kormassa), Ivan Smith (Elizabeth), Jacqueline Smith Pope (Wallace), James Skirving Smith (Marie), Catherine Smith Jallah (Randolph) and Audrian Smith(Eric); grandchildren Jabaree (Nicosie), Steddela, Amber, Nicolas, Claudius, Isaiah, Stepheno, Rachel, Stephen, Joshua, Nejay, Carlos, Julia, James, Aymora, Eden, Guy, Darren and Lillian; great-grandchildren Darome, Sage, Skylar, Jarius, Becky, Jarvis, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents Hon. James Henrique Smith, Sr. and Janie Louise Reeves Smith; his daughter Vashti Lorraine Smith; his sister, Loriene Vashti Smith McClain; his brothers, Melvin Guy Smith and Cyril Samuel Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carlos B.Z. Smith, Sr. Memorial Educational Fund to honor his dedication and commitment to education.
