It is with profound sadness, but praises to Almighty God who gives and takes away at HIS will and pleasure that the Barchue, Bowe, Thomas, Saye, Manly, Zambah, Verdier and Stryker families announce the home-going of Honorable Rachel Sundayma Bowe-Barchue.
She was called to the Lord on January 4, 2021 from natural causes. Honorable Barchue affectionately called Mama, Grand, Grandma, Auntie Rachel, Cousin Rachel, Commissioner Barchue, and Teacher Barchue was born on May 13, 1928 unto the union of Commissioner Samuel G. Bowe and Mrs. Joanna Louise Thomas Bowe.
Honorable Barchue attended the Bassa High school in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. She also attended the Liberia Teacher Training Institutes around the country. She became a teacher after the completion of the training program and taught 20 years at the Owensgrove District Government School.
Being a hard-working and ambitious woman, she left the teaching profession to pursue the political arena by becoming District Commissioner for Owensgrove, Grand Bassa County and Compound #3 for more than 20 years. Honorable Barchue was a great Seamstress and Farmer, Philanthropist, Visionary, and Disciplinarian.
Honorable Rachel Sundayma Bowe-Barchue was predeceased by her parents, Commissioner Samuel G. Bowe and Mrs. Joanna Louise Thomas Bowe. Honorable Rachel Sundayma Bowe-Barchue was married to the late Judge Joseph Lee Barchue, Sr. for seventy years. This union was blessed with nine children. Three of which predeceased her, infant daughter, Daisy Barchue, her oldest son Augustus Jaban Barchue, and her oldest daughter, Mrs. Joanna Louise Barchue. One grandson Mathies Augustus Barchue, her siblings: Mrs. Louise Togma (LT) Bowe-Page, Ms. Marie Bowe, Mr. John Bowe and Moses Bowe. Her childhood and longtime best friend and sister, Mrs. Clara Roberts Harris.
She leaves to cherish her great memory, her children: Attorney Nana Elizabeth Jane Barchue-Vah (retired), Oklahoma State Official (retired), but presently licensed as a Professional Counselor, Mental Health and Alcohol /Drug Therapist, Mr. Joseph Lee Barchue, Jr., Oklahoma City Official Mr. Edwin Jeremiah Barchue (retired), Hotelier (retired), but presently a Realtor, Miner and Farmer, Mr. Trokon Hill. Houston, Texas official Mr. Richard S. Barchue (retired), and member of The House of Representatives Honorable Hans Mathies Barchue. Stepchildren: Mrs. Massa Barchue-Logan, Ms. Cornamee Josephine Barchue, Mr. Von Barchue, Mr. Jesse Barchue, Mr. Cyrus Barchue, Mr. Christian Barchue, and Ms. Marthaline Barchue. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two foster sisters, Mrs. Annie Diggs Neal and Mrs. Hawa Bowe. Her favorite niece and daughter Mrs. Henrietta Page- McCauley. Also, mourning her loss are her cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of close daughters-in-laws, nieces-in-laws, nephews-in-laws, friends, church family members, and other well wishes.
