It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Smith family announces the homegoing of our beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, and grandfather, Brigadier General (retired) Edward W. Smith of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Liberia. He transitioned to be with His Creator on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 8:14 p.m., in Northwest Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He peacefully departed this world, surrounded by his loved ones.
The late Brigadier General (retired) Edward W. Smith was a dedicated leader, patriot, and member of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Liberia. He lived a life of service to the Republic of Liberia and to those he held dear. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, warmth, and unforgettable spirit. He will be dearly missed but always remembered.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife for 46 years, Mrs. Martha T. Smith, children, Larry, Otis, Garretson, Gerald, Edwina Worto, Thomas, Emmett, Samuel, Decontee, Patrice Smith, Samuel Hoff, and Ben Whyte Foster Son, Grand Children, his Mother, Sarah Worto Smith Gee, his uncle, Thomas Smith, and a host of relatives and friends whose lives he filled with deep love and immense joy.
General (Retired) Edward W. Smith was predeceased by his children: Chuck Smith, Edward W. Smith Jr., and Steve Wilmot Tarkpor Smith.
While we mourn this tremendous loss for our family, we are filled with deep gratitude for the love he poured into all of us, the lessons he instilled in us about how to live, love, and lead, and the way he never missed an opportunity to make everyone around him laugh. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
