It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Smith-Busch and Collins Families announce the sudden passing of our loving brother, beloved father, uncle, cousin and friend, William George Collins, fondly called “Bill” or “Bill-George”.
He passed away at home on Monday, April 28th, 2025, in Offenbach, Germany.
Bill was born on May 10th, 1964 unto the union of The Late Hugh Gbi Collins, Sr. and Gertie Hahn Collins in Monrovia, Liberia. He attended both Methodist and Lutheran Elementary Schools and part of his high school years at St. Patrick’s High School in Monrovia. He immigrated to the United States and graduated from William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA in 1982.
In his earlier working life, he had a successful career in Liberia, Uganda and The Congo, working for various international organizations including the UN. In Liberia, his main work involved the rehabilitation of child soldiers after the civil war, something he truly enjoyed doing and that he considered his main achievement. Before he left Liberia in 2013, he was working for the American Embassy in Monrovia in their logistics department.. In Germany, he had several assignments working with government agencies to help resettle Syrian and other refugees.
Bill was an avid basketball player and loved watching all types of sports. He loved to travel and simply enjoy life. He is and will be sorely missed by many.
He leaves to mourn his passing his children: Aisha, Alexandra (AJ), and Billie Jean; his grandson: Aston James; his siblings: Henriette “Jetty” Smith-Busch, Hugh “Gbi” Collins, Jr. (Hawa), Henry R. Collins (Kebeh), Richard Vonet Collins; a host of relatives and friends worldwide.
He was pre-deceased by his parents: Hugh Gbi Collins, Sr. and Gertie Hahn Collins and brother Max Busch.
