It is with profound sadness and grief that the Bettie, Smith, Cheeks, Whitlow, Harris, Bassar, and Sharpe families announce the peaceful home going of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, nephew, uncle, and cousin, honorable Deacon John William Bettie. He passed away on January 21, 2025, surrounded by families at his home in Minneapolis Minnesota. He was the former commissioner of the Township of Johnsonville, former justice of the peace for the township of Johnsonville, and former assistant superintendent for Montserrado County Liberia. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 47 unbroken years Mrs. Bernice Harris Bettie, 22 children, 123 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives here in the United States, Liberia and around the world.
He’s predeceased by his parents Arthur William Monroe Bettie and Idell Elizabeth Smith Bettie. His brothers and sisters Kirene Bettie, Irene Bettie, James L Bettie, Hasty Bettie-Gibson, Victoria Bettie-Sanyeneh, Cecilia Bettie Hill, Christiana A. Bettie, Rhoda E. Bettie, Mack W. Bettie his children Beatrice Bettie Lewis and Olive M. Bettie.
