The Konuwa, Cole, Tay, Smith, Dagoseh, Metzger, Jangaba, Mabande, Golafale, Johnson, Simpson, Kamara, Kanneh and Welland families announce, with profound sadness, the death of our dear love one, Dr. Alfred B. Konuwa, Jr., on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 8:41pm in Chico, California, U.S.A.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Sophie Cole-Konuwa; sons, Munieh B. Konuwa (Monah), Alfred B. Konuwa
III, and Anani B. Konuwa (Nitasha); sisters, Yatta Welland (George), Alfreda Konuwa, and Catherine Adighibe (Ndu); brothers, Charles Konuwa, Varney Konuwa, and Varney Tamu Konuwa (Keturah); grandchildren, Tonieh, Fisah, Munieh jr., Dargoseh, and Nivaan; great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a host of relatives in Liberia and abroad. Alfred is predeceased by his mother, Tonieh Mendemasa Konuwa, and father, Alfred Boima Konuwa, Sr.
Alfred graduated from St Patrick’s High School in 1971, and the University of Liberia (LU) in 1975 with a degree in Economics. He went on to receive two Master’s degrees – Economics, and Public Administration from California State University, Sacramento, in Sacramento, California. Alfred returned to Monrovia, Liberia and worked for the government in the Civil Service Agency as Director of Selection. He was later promoted as an administrator to the Deputy Director-General of the Civil Service Agency.
Alfred returned to California and earned his Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy Analysis/Public Finance from the University of Southern California, (USC) in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Alfred B. Konuwa Jr., was a lifelong scholar. He was a professor at Butte-Glenn Community College District in Oroville, California and California State University, Chico in Chico, California teaching Economics, Business, and African Studies among other courses. He loved teaching! Alfred also served in administration as the Dean of Business and Social Sciences at Butte College, and later moved on to become the Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Woodland Community College, in Woodland, California. Throughout his decorated career, Alfred forged many lifetime friendships, and impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues. Everyone who came in contact with Dr. Konuwa learned something, even if it was a casual reminder to enjoy life.
Molly, as he was affectionately called by family members, is remembered as a loving and caring family member, trusted friend and dedicated professional.
