With deep sorrow, the Garnett, Freeman, Walker, and Urey Families unite in announcing the peaceful transition of our beloved Matriarch, Mrs. Thelma Lucia Freeman-Garnett, from Bentol City, Montserrado County, Liberia, at the venerable age of 92. A cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend. She departed this life on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Fidelity Hospital, Sinkor, Liberia.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, embraced by her children: Mardia Doll Garnett, Benjamin G. Garnett (Yna), Thelma L. Garnett, Tilmon F. Garnett, Elodia Garnett-Perry (Serdou), Elbertha Garnett-Knuckles (William), Edna Garnett-Mellinger (Thomas), Evelyn L. Yoryor (Isaac), Pearl Garnett-Seward (Austin). Thirty-four grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Freeman-Mathelier and Mrs. Benetta Freeman-Bates, and one brother, Lloyd Kennedy. Cousins, Mrs. Coranna Okorodudu, Mrs. Juliett Phelps-Maxwell, Josephine Mabel Barclay, Gwendolyn Stevenson-Thiam, Mrs. Charlotte Walker-Allen, Amos Walker, Mrs. Earlene DeShield, William Wordsworth, Alex Wordsworth, Mrs. Sadie L. DeShield and sister in-law, Rev. Genevieve C. Garnett. She also leaves behind a host of close cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives in Liberia, the United States, and Canada.
She was predeceased by her father, Honorable Benjamin G. Freeman, mother, Nancy Walker, husband, Samuel A. Garnett, children, Samuel A. Garnett II (Jr), Dearborn Garnett-Freeman, Samuel A. Garnett III (Boyuboy), Esther Freeman-Obiamiwe and Mary Garnett-Dahn, and her best friends and sisters, Julia C. Brent and Edna T. Bailey.
Deacon Thelma Lucia Freeman-Garnett was a beacon of devotion, embodying profound dedication to God, her cherished family, her beloved church, and her cherished community. As a nurturing and compassionate mother, she radiated love and care, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in heavenly peace.
