“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
With sorrow and in the hope of the resurrection, we announce that Edward W. Morgan, lovingly referred to as Ed and/or EE, of Warwick, Rhode Island, died Saturday morning, October 17, 2026, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Cathryn J. Morgan; the couple would have celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on November 2.
Born April 7, 1956, in Harper, Maryland County, Liberia, he graduated from Cape Palmas High School, attended Tubman University, and worked for several years at United Security Insurance Corporation in Monrovia. He came to the United States in 1987, settling first in Newark, NJ, before making his home in Rhode Island. For more than 25 years, he worked as a transporter at the CVS Distribution Center in Woonsocket.
Ed lived with a servant’s heart, centering each day on his family and his faith. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Providence, where he served on the Vestry, and he gave his time to his community as a member of the Bay Ridge Community Association Board of Directors. He also served on the National Maryland County Association of Liberia (NAMCAL) and the Liberian Episcopal Community of the USA – Rhode Island (LECUSA-RI).
Known to many as the “Mayor of Bay Ridge,” Ed’s favorite place was the little beach just down the street, where he talked with anyone and everyone who happened by. He was so well known that, around the neighborhood, Cathy was simply “Ed’s wife.” He was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and also enjoyed watching soccer and basketball.
Ed leaves to mourn his wife, Cathy Morgan, two daughters, Andrea Horton and Lindsey Asan; six grandchildren, Alana, Nicolas and Luciano Asan, and Devin, Julian and Roslyn Horton; his sister, Venice Dean; his nieces and nephew, Veronica, Precious and Richard; and his great-nieces, Jeanine, Nadean and Ilisa. Ed belonged to a large family, the Morgan, Awuku, Itoka, Gadegbeku, and Ajavon families; he leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.
The wake will be held Friday, October 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, October 24, at 10 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 300 Westminster Street, Providence (corner of Westminster and Mathewson Streets). Limited parking is available in the church lot on Chapel Street, between Snow and Mathewson Streets. Burial will be at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown.
