
It is with profound sorrow that the Grigsby family announces the passing of our beloved Hon. Sylvester Mondubue “Greg” Grigsby, Liberia’s distinguished Minister of State for Presidential Affairs. He departed this life on August 9, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving wife, Cleopatra Sangay Dudley Grigsby, and their daughters, Diana and Scheagbe Mayumi “Umi.”
The Honorable Grigsby was born on October 15, 1950, in Sinoe County, Liberia. Throughout his remarkable life, he exemplified integrity, humility, and a steadfast commitment to public service. His nearly five decades of service strengthened Liberia’s international partnerships, inspired new generations of leaders, and left an indelible mark on his nation and the world. Steadily guided by his faith and devotion to family, he placed the interests of country and community above personal gain.

Honoring His Legacy
In tribute to his lifelong commitment to education and empowerment, the family of Hon. Grigsby has established the Sylvester Mondubue Grigsby Scholarship for Liberians attending the College of West Africa. This scholarship continues his tradition of supporting educational opportunities for Liberian youth.
