According to the LNP Deputy Commissioner for Police for Public Safety Fred Gaye , the highest penalty applies to motorists found in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license, which carries a fine of US$5,000 or up to three years imprisonment.
Other offenses and penalties include:
Overloading a vehicle (considered reckless driving): US$500 fine or six months imprisonment ( both)
Driving without a valid driver’s license: US$500 fine or six months imprisonment ( both)
Driving an uninsured vehicle: US$1,000 fine or one year imprisonment
Failure to register a vehicle: US$500 fine or six months imprisonment
In addition, the LNP disclosed that pedestrians who fail to use designated crosswalks when crossing major roads will be fined US$5, in line with existing traffic regulations.
The police say these measures are intended to reduce accidents, promote discipline on public roads, and ensure safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
