It is with heavy hearts and immeasurable sadness that the family announce the passing of Reverend Dr. Ernest Spencer Benjamin Ward due to complications of the Coronavirus. This sad event occurred on Friday, January 29, 2021.
Rev. Dr. Ward was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. He was the youngest son of the Late Rev. Dr. Thomas Ebenezer Ward and the Late Sarah Josephine Anderson Ward, and predeceased by his brothers, the Late William Ebenezer Andrew Ward and the Late Victor Emmanuel Beresford Ward. Rev. Dr. Ward was the Pastor of Divine Deliverance Baptist Church in Johnston, Rhode Island, and formerly worked at IBM for twenty-five years. He lived in New York, California, Ohio and Connecticut before relocating to Providence, Rhode Island in 2000 and was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, American Baptist Churches and the Ministers Alliance of Rhode Island.
Rev. Dr. Ward is survived by his loving wife, Laura Ayodele Rhodes Ward. He is also survived by his children, Sonya J. Bradley, Lawrence S. Ward (Lavita), Sharee Anissa Kavanagh (Donnie), Terrence E. Ward (Khala), Spencer O. Ward and Jonice E. Ward; his sister, Theodora Ward Jackson; his sister-in-law, Bernice Ayele Ajavon; his grandchildren Thomas R. Hussey, Savanah R. Hussey, Joshua B. Bradley, Colton J. Woolhouse, Beckham O. Ward, Naima L. Blair, Kyndall J. Ward and Kamryn S. Ward; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1 pm EST at Divine Deliverance Baptist Church at 82 Serrell Sweet Road, Johnston, Rhode Island, U.S.A.
Due to Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions, social distancing and wearing of mask/face covering will be enforced.
