Monrovia – The Office of Bong County Senator Prince K. Moye has sharply responded to allegations made by Nimba County District 7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility, describing them as misleading and politically driven.
Rep. Bility last week accused Senator Moye of failing to bring development to Bong County despite serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget. But in a statement issued Wednesday, Senator Moye’s Office dismissed the accusations as baseless and clarified that the Senator’s legislative duties focus on ensuring fiscal discipline and equitable allocation of national resources, not on channeling funds to any specific county.
According to the statement, one of the major setbacks to Bong County’s development is the failure of China Union, a major concession operating in the county, to pay more than US$10 million in social development funds owed since 2015.
These funds were intended for essential community development initiatives such as the construction of roads, schools, health centers, and other public infrastructure.
The Office noted that while Bong County continues to suffer from China Union’s failure to meet its obligations, Rep. Bility has reportedly benefited from over US$42.7 million generated through petroleum storage facilities he operates in partnership with China Union.
The statement described this as a glaring contradiction, accusing Rep. Bility of profiting from the same company that owes Bong County millions meant for local development.
“This situation persists because of political interference and protection from individuals like Rep. Bility, who use their influence to shield China Union from fulfilling its financial responsibilities to the people of Bong County,” the Office said. “In this context, Rep. Bility is not contributing to the development of Bong County; he is obstructing it, and the people of Bong are fully aware.”
The statement further alleged that Rep. Bility’s public criticism of Senator Moye is a diversion tactic intended to distract from his own financial dealings and political interests. It added that while the people of Bong County await long-overdue development funds, Rep. Bility reportedly continues to benefit from arrangements that have deprived the county of vital resources.
Senator Moye’s Office also linked Rep. Bility’s recent outburst to his opposition to the Senate’s decision to adjust petroleum storage fees at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), a measure supported by Senator Moye to raise additional government revenue for rural development.
“The adjustment benefits the Liberian people. It channels resources to towns and villages that need better roads, bridges, and social programs. Opposition to this measure reflects misplaced priorities,” the statement noted.
The Office reaffirmed Senator Moye’s commitment to transparent leadership and to ensuring that Bong County receives its rightful share of national development. It highlighted Senator Moye’s record in supporting projects in infrastructure, education, health, and youth empowerment across the county.
“The people of Bong County will not be distracted by empty rhetoric or short-term publicity projects,” the statement concluded. “Development is not a show; it is a service.”
Rep. Bility couldn’t be reached for comment up to press time.
