Missionary Esther Wheagar, age 72, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on January 12, 2026. She was born on January 1, 1954, into the noble union of Clan Chief Janjay Bayogar and Chinda Bayogar. A woman of deep faith, strength, and unwavering devotion to God, she lived a life marked by service, prayer, and love for humanity.
From an early age, Esther demonstrated a calling toward faith and leadership. That calling matured into a lifetime of ministry and service to the Body of Christ. She faithfully served alongside her beloved husband, Rev. John N. Wheagar, as a Missionary Pastor at the Church of the Believers, Matadi Estate, Monrovia, Liberia, where their joint ministry touched countless lives through teaching, evangelism, prayer, and pastoral care.
Missionary Esther Wheagar was also the Founder and Bible Teacher of the Christian Prayer Line, USA, a ministry through which she mentored, prayed for, and spiritually guided believers across communities and borders. Known for her steadfast prayer life, sound biblical teaching, and motherly counsel, she stood as a pillar of faith to many who sought wisdom, healing, and encouragement.
Beyond the pulpit and prayer line, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, mentor, and spiritual mother. Her home and heart were always open. She exemplified humility, compassion, discipline, and an unshakable trust in God. Her legacy is one of faith lived out daily, not merely spoken.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John N. Wheagar, and her beloved daughter, Rachael “Mamie” Wheagar.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Emmanuel Randolph Wheagar and Aaron S. Wheagar; her grandchildren, Dr. Emmanuel Wheagar II, Emmanuel Wheagar III, and Emiline Gifty Wheagar; as well as her brothers, sister, cousins, nephews, extended family, spiritual children, and a global community of believers whose lives she profoundly impacted.
Missionary Esther Wheagar’s life was a sermon, her prayers a covering, and her faith an enduring example. Though she has answered the call to glory, her teachings, prayers, and legacy will continue to speak for generations.

The late Mother Esther B. Wheagar was born on January 1, 1954, unto the union of Elder Janjay and Chinda Baryogar in Yah Town, District Number Three, Grand Bassa County, Republic of Liberia. Her father was a respected Clan Chief within the district and also served faithfully as an Elder of the Church, instilling in his household strong values of leadership, discipline, and reverence for God.
Early Life
Mother Wheagar spent her formative years in Yah Town under the nurturing care of her parents. During this period, she developed the resilience, humility, and industrious spirit that would define her life. In her later youth, she migrated to Monrovia, where she engaged in petty trading as a means of supporting herself and contributing to family life. Through diligence and perseverance, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to responsibility and self-sufficiency.
Education
The late Mother Wheagar did not have the privilege of formal education during her early years. In adulthood, she pursued learning as circumstances allowed. However, the demands of business, marriage, motherhood, and ministry limited the extent of her formal educational journey. Despite this, she possessed remarkable wisdom, practical intelligence, and spiritual insight, which earned her respect both within and beyond her community.
Marriage and Family Life
She married the late Rev. John Neyor Wheagar, and their union was blessed with three biological children and one foster child. Together, they built a Christ-centered home marked by love, discipline, and service. The family lived harmoniously until 1994, when her husband was called to glory.
Following his passing, Mother Wheagar chose not to remarry. She devoted the remainder of her life to raising her family and serving the work of God, faithfully carrying forward the legacy she and her husband had built together.
Faith Journey and Ministry
Mother Wheagar was introduced to the Christian faith in 1973, following her husband’s conversion through an interdenominational fellowship known as The Hope Bible Club. The family initially worshiped at First Assembly of God Church on Buchanan Street, Monrovia.
In late 1984, following her husband’s spiritual alignment with The Church of the Believers in Sinkor, Monrovia, the family became members of that congregation. Mother Wheagar joined the Tribal Choir, serving faithfully until 1988, when she was appointed as a Missionary and Praying Mother.
In this role, she was deeply involved in teaching and preaching the Word of God, while also laboring fervently in the prayer ministry of the church. Her faithfulness and spiritual maturity led to her elevation to the office of Missionary Pastor in 1994, a position she held with distinction until her passing.
Her spiritual life was profoundly shaped by her husband, Rev. John N. Wheagar, who served as her mentor, spiritual guide, and lifelong inspiration in ministry.
Life Beyond Her Motherland
In November 2000, Mother Wheagar relocated to the United States of America, having been petitioned by her eldest son, Mr. Emmanuel R. Wheagar. While in the United States, she became a spiritual mother not only to her children but to many others who came under her influence.
She founded The Christian Prayer Line, a ministry dedicated to prayer and the teaching of God’s Word through mobile phone communication. Through this platform, she touched countless lives, offering counsel, encouragement, and intercession across borders.
Her Homegoing
Mother Esther B. Wheagar was called to glory on January 12, 2026, after a period of prolonged illness.
