She transitioned into eternal peace at her home in Duazon, Monrovia, Liberia on December 14, 2023, at 11:10 am.
Her generous spirit touched the lives of many people. She radiated so much love to everyone that she encountered. She was affectionately known as Mommie Clemens, Mommie, Tilly, Sister Matilda, Aunty Matilda, Aunt Tilda, and Cousin Matilda. Her departure leaves a deep void that can only be filled by the precious memories of her warmth and generosity. As we mourn, she instructed us to take solace in the promise from Romans 8:35-39.
This Proverbs 31 woman found joy in a devoted practice of her Christian faith. She was an avid reader, loved listening to gospel music, and enjoyed bringing people together. Her favorite ways to be creative were sewing, baking, and cooking. Her memory will linger forever in the hearts of those who knew her as they reflect on the humor and joy she brought to their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jesse B. Clemens Jr., and parents, Robert Francis, Sr. and Comfort Moifoi Okai. Also preceding her in death are 5 of her children, as well as all of her brothers and sisters.
Mommie Clemens is survived by her beloved children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, and cousins in Liberia, Ghana, the USA, and other parts of the diaspora.
Her compassionate heart touched many lives. We will remember Mommie Clemens as a mother to many and her absence will always be deeply felt.
