On August 12, 1956, Koko Nuhwo Wollarh-Baysah was born in Liberia. The village that raised her was her adopted parents, Mr. Albert Porte, Liberia’s legendary journalist, and his lovely wife, Mrs. Bertha Porte, along with her mother, Ma Lorpu Wollarh, all of whom predeceased her. Mrs. Baysah embraced the Christian faith at an early age and was baptized at Christ Episcopal Church in Crozierville, Liberia.
In Liberia, Mrs. Baysah attended B.W. Harris Episcopal High School and graduated in 1975. She received a full-ride scholarship to attend Cuttington University, an Episcopal Liberal Arts College in Suakoko, Bong County, Liberia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Cuttington University in 1979. In July 1979, she married her college sweetheart, Mr. William S. Baysah. Mrs. Baysah’s marriage dissolved after 28 years together, but they were blessed to raise their five children: Lovo Baysah, Weeya Young, Monigo Buckle, William Baysah, Jr., and Esther Vani. Later in life, Mrs. Baysah earned her Master of Public Health from Walden University with honors.
Mrs. Baysah immigrated to the United States of America in 1989, where she and her family settled in West Haven, Connecticut, and she worked as a CNA. In 1995, Mrs. Baysah and her family moved to Cape Coral, FL. She spent over 20 years teaching GED preparation, starting at Charlotte Correctional Facility and retiring at Moore Haven Correctional Facility in 2018. Mrs. Baysah was dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and helping inmates rehabilitate and transition out of the prison system. Many of her students loved and appreciated her because they viewed her as a mother figure. Mrs. Baysah was a member of Mount Hermon Ministries for 19 years, where she served as an Intercessor and in the Hospitality Ministry. She returned to the workforce in November 2024, working as a caregiver for Preferred Care at Home and Visiting Angels.
Mrs. Baysah enjoyed traveling, so her children surprised her with a 7-Day trip to Israel when she retired in 2018. It was extra special because she always wanted to go to Israel. She also enjoyed gardening, joking around, and family gatherings. On most special occasions, you would likely see her dressed in her traditional Liberian attire, with a big smile. On January 7, 2026, the Lord called his angel home. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughters, Lovo Baysah, Weeya Young, Monigo Buckle, and Esther Vani, her son, William S. Baysah, Jr., her sons-in-law, Michael Buckle, and Ryan Young, her grandchildren: Asante Vani, Leila Jerome, and Wyatt Young, her brothers, Elfric K. Porte Sr., Coslet Porte, Upton Porte, George Davies, her sisters, Cenethe Hunder, Frederica Wesley, Fametta Porte, and Emelda Summerville, and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends. Her children sign this announcement: Lovo, Weeya, Esther, Monigo, and William Jr.
