It is with profound sadness that the Harmon, Hardy, Sancea families announce the peaceful passing of their patriarch Jonathan Leofred Harmon, Sr, in his ninety-sixth year; he was affectionately called “Bubba,” “Brother Jonathan,” “Harmon,” “Uncle Jonathan,” “Grandpa” and “Uncle Harmon”.
Jonathan was born on January 16, 1926 in Pleebo, Maryland County, Liberia and transitioned on Friday, November 18, 2022. During his brief illness, he was lovingly cared for by his children and his granddaughter Einstein Harmon Williams. He was surrounded by his sister Malvenia Harmon, daughters Pearl Harmon, Cecelia Harmon, and his cousin Rev. Canon John T. Harmon in Columbia, Maryland at the time of his transition.
Jonathan was predeceased by his parents Rev. Randolph W. Harmon and Etta Hardy Harmon, his wife Lottie Carter Harmon, his sisters Rosalind Harmon Horace, and Willamina “Lady” Harmon. Jonathan is survived by his siblings James Harmon, Charlotte Harmon, Malvenia Harmon, Randolph Harmon aka Boy (Massa), Kotati Harmon Butler aka Girl, Hillary Lafayette Harmon (Jr.), his children Cecil B. Harmon (Peggy), Cecelia J. Harmon, Jonathan L. Harmon, Jr. (Tanya), Pearl L. Harmon (Sedia), Yuthon Harmon, nine (9) grandchildren, and thirteen (13) great grandchildren. Jonathan also leaves to mourn his loss a host of relatives, friends, and co-workers including, Liberia Electric Company (LEC), Liberia Opportunity Industrialization Center (LOIC), the Maryland County Association, (USA) and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Liberia. The family is asking everyone NOT to wear black for the funeral services as we will be celebrating the well-lived life of Jonathan Leofred Harmon, Sr.
