The Ajavon, Cox and Baker-Carter families announce with profound regret the passing of their mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and cousin Dr. Ayele M. Ajavon-Cox, who departed this earth on November 19, 2023, in Cresskill, New Jersey, USA.
Dr. Ajavon-Cox was born on November 15, 1940 in Pleebo, Maryland County, Republic of Liberia to Alma Quadayou Carter and Adolph N. Ajavon, who predeceased her. Dr. Ajavon-Cox was also twice widowed; she was predeceased by Dr. James Yinda Nyoth and Mr. Thomas G. Cox respectively. Dr. Ajavon-Cox was a distinguished dental surgeon and humanitarian.
Ayele is survived by her daughters, Veda Ayele Nyoth Simpson and Yamah Ajavon Cassell; Foster sons: Solomon Gardner and Flomo Yarsiah; Her Grandchildren: Clarence Lorenzo Simpson IV, Christophe Lamin Ayite Simpson and Claire Ayele Elaine Simpson; her siblings: Joe Ajavon(Gale), Leona Ajuah Ajavon, Anthony Ajavon, Amy Lawrence Ba, Gloria Bruce Thomas, Elise Bruce William and Moses Bruce,Romana Ajavon, Amavie Ajavon, Abraham Ayayi Ajavon, Bernice Ayetobi Clement Dunn, Francis Nyemah Ajavon, Carlos A. Ajavon Sr., Segismund Jackie Ajavon, Isaac Ajavon, Faith D’Almeida, Leona Chesson, Gabriel Tucker, Danielette Tucker, John Payne Tucker, William T. Bruce Sr., Isabella Bruce Gibson, and Elizabeth Bruce; her sister-cousin Dr. Yede Baker Dennis and her brother-cousin Cllr. James Nyema Baker; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice Nyoth, Eric Cox (Magretta) Audrey Cox Howard, Karen Cox, Shirley Cox and Rodney Cox. She was predeceased by her first husband Dr. James Nyoth, and her second husband Thomas Cox.
Vigil for the late Dr. Ayele M. Ajavon-Cox will take place at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 1700 Wainwright Dr., Reston, VA 20190 from 6pm-8pm, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. This will be followed by the Celebration of Life on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 10am, at the same venue.
