It is with profound sadness that the Brewer, Bush, Gray, and Smith families announce the homegoing of Henrietta Rebecca Bush Brewer.
Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in Accra, Ghana.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Nazarene Brewer Tubman, Henryton Brewer (Jeannie), Hardenglen Brewer, Chelnicia Brewer, Alida Delaney (Hankey), Anita Cooper (Daubeny), Onet Witherspoon (Bill), Eunice Baker, Marlene Bush, Sarah Harris, and Betsy Thompson; her granddaughter, whom she raised, Euphemia Brewer Fasama; her sister, Josephine Eastman, her nieces who were close friends, Violette Bright and Marjorie Greaves-Sherman; along with her other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, J. Hilary Brewer; her parents, J. Richard Bush and Henrietta R. Gray Bush; her children, James Hilary Brewer Jr., Myrtle Cheryl Brewer (Pudding), Henrietta Brewer (Bunchie), Malvenia Brewer, Henrietta Brewer, and Margaret Kermee; and her siblings, Adolphus, Jenkins, William, Eunice, Edwin, Joseph, James, and Barbara.
Bettie will be remembered for her caring and compassionate ways, her unwavering faith in God, and the strength of her convictions. She lived by the mantra, “Before I spoil my heart with hatred, I willingly forgive.” Her life was a testament to love, forgiveness, and faith, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
May her soul and the souls of all the dearly departed, rest in perfect peace.
