It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that the Chesson, Dennis and Jacobs families announce the sudden passing of our cherished Cllr Dr. Mozart Alvin Chesson on October 13, 2026, in his 75th year, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
“Mozee”, “Uncle Mozart”, was deeply loved and will be remembered for his beautiful spirit, brilliance, quiet demeanor, strength, warmth, and kindness he shared with his family and all who knew him. Those around him learned patience and mildness. The happiest and most important event in his life was his baptism in April of 1974 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He remained in his faith until his death. He was a brilliant counselor-at-law, who served his country with integrity as the Judge for the Tax Court in Montserrado County, Liberia until his retirement in 2021, after years of practice in the United States.
Mozart was the beloved husband of Johnetta Jacobs Chesson and father of Joseph Jefferson “J.J.” Francis Kwame Chesson, Ayele Bonjuah “Bon Bon” Chesson, Neejay Ogar (Ipuole), Tabitha Alvina Chesson, and Deon Pumphrey. He was the grandfather of: Desiree Amina Chesson, Nyla Elise Chesson, Malachi Khalil Oluwatobi Oyeyemi, and Ipuole and Mahneh Ogar.
Mozart was a precious son of the Hon. Min. Joseph Jefferson Francis Chesson Sr. and Ms. Estella Dennis Turay, along with his stepmothers, Mrs. C. Leona Chesson and Mrs. Florence Chesson, who all predeceased him.
“Mozee” was the oldest living brother and trusted advisor of his siblings: Mr. Christie Fenning (Bridget), Wendell Chesson (Petrina), Yvette N. Chesson-Gibson (Chauncy), Charles Hoffman (Massa), Pschopelia M. Chesson-Wilkins, Jefferson Rodney Chesson (Karen), Rouchell H. Chesson Sr., Geraldine Bass-Golokeh, Wilhelmina Chesson Versini, William “Weekie” Hamelberg, Cora Chesson, Rudolph Chesson (Rachael), Jeanette Chesson, Tos Chesson (Patricia), Verelyn Porte, Venetta Chesson Neufville, J. Jefferson Chesson (Jamesetta), J. Jawah Chesson (Beatrice), Jackie Chesson Alpha (Harry), Joselle Chesson; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by siblings: J. Jefferson Francis Chesson Jr., Alhaj A. Azziz “Leonardo Chesson”, Gaynelle Chesson, Rodney Chesson, and Kemah Chesson.
