It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the transition of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grand, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Mrs. Nellie Zoe Monica Carter Greenfield AKA Mama, Big Mama, Grandma Nellie, Queen, Aunty Zoe and Cousin Nellie.
Mama passed away on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at the age of 89. She was a loving, caring, wonderful mother to all and will be greatly missed.
Mama served the Liberian government at the then Treasury Department (now Finance Ministry) from 1958 until 1990. She migrated to the United States in 1990 due to the civil war and resided in West Haven Connecticut for the last 32 years.
Mama leaves to mourn and celebrate her precious life; her children Hawa McCabe Trinity, Kollie McCabe (Mardia), Clarence Greenfield, David B.S. Greenfield III (Sharon), Rofio Greenfield, Uvet Greenfield Williams (Richu), Phoebe Greenfield, Richard Greenfield (Roma), James Williams (Mara), Varney Howard (Mamie), and her nephew/son Winston Azzam (Rita), 22 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mama also leaves to mourn her loss; her sisters/childhood friends Rachel Wilson, Tina Onumeh, Tryphena Fahnbulleh, Rev. Erlene Thompson, Rhodel Williams, Beatrice Tweh, Thelma Brownell, Martha Urey and Henrietta Keller
Mama was predeceased by her husband David B.S. Greenfield Jr, her daughter Maurine Jassa Summerville Smith, her parents Saiway and Jassa Tete Carter, her mother Lydia Randall, her brothers Sando Carter and Johnathan R. Campbell Sr.
