“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (NIV)
With deep sorrow, we announce the transition of our beloved Amelia Deveta Cooper—a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. Amelia peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Amelia’s legacy is carried forward by her daughter, Shawna, and her adored grandchildren, Dominick, Gichura, and Kimathi, along with their families. She now joins her daughter, Chara Massah Veronica Hansford-Gitau, who preceded her in eternal rest in 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Augustus W. Cooper and Elizabeth Cooper.
A multitude of devoted grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, godchildren, and many dear friends also join in mourning her passing.
