It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Kamara, Gwei, Caine, Fahnbulleh and other families inform you of the sudden death of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, family member, teacher and friend Jamesetta Massa Kamara Gwei commonly known as Teacher Massa or J Mass.
This sad event occurred on the evening of Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia after a brief illness.
Teacher Massa was a career educator, who dedicated her life to teaching and made an impression on everyone she met; spending several decades mentoring girls at her beloved alma mater, the St. Teresa’s Convent High School on Randall Street in Monrovia. She was a devout Christian.
She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Elijah Simpson Gwei, Sr., her children David S. Gwei, Feme Q. Gwei, Elijah Simpson Gwei, Jr. Her grandchildren: Davidetta Massa Gwei, Mark Achim Nyeamene, Christian J. Gwei and David S. Gwei, II.
She is also survived by her brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, foster children, her many students and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
ï On Friday, March 10th, 2023, her remains will be removed from the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. under appropriate escort and taken to the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on 10th Street for a night of wake keeping beginning at 6:00 p.m.
ï On Saturday, March 11th, 2023, funeral rites will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the same church. Thereafter, her remains will be conveyed to Bong Mines on the Kakata Highway for interment at the family’s plot.
▪ Kindly note that all tributes, except the family and the Church (St. Stephen’s) must be paid during the wake keeping.
▪ Also there will be no flowers/floral designs. The family kindly requests contributions to be made towards an endowment fund in her memory.
