With profound sorrow and heartfelt grief, the Johnson family announces the passing of their beloved father, patriarch, and leader, Prof. Francis B. S. Johnson, who departed this life in his 82nd year.
This deeply saddening event occurred on March 30, 2026, at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, Liberia.
Prof. Johnson was a man of great dignity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to service. As an accomplished educator and distinguished statesman, he devoted his life to the advancement and betterment of the Republic of Liberia. Prof Francis B.S. Johnson served as Representative of Rivercess County where he represented his constituents very well in the Interim National Legislature from 1991-1993, served as Comptroller and Head of the Accounting Department at the University of Liberia and also as Professor for many years at the University of Liberia. He also served as Chairman of the Accounting Department at the United Methodist University on Ashmond Street, Monrovia.
His legacy of integrity, leadership, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents Esau Dar Johnson Sr, father, mothers, Cece Goffa and Teacher Mildred Johnson, children, Abraham B.S. Johnson, Othello B.S. Johnson, Issac Maxwell Smith, Enoch Johnson, siblings, George K. Johnson Sr, Martha Johnson Hne, Theresa Johnson Gildersleeve, Annie Johnson Goll, and Benjamin Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Doris Togar Johnson, several biological and adopted children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, his siblings, Winifred Manyango, Marie Johnson Hortin, Esau Dar Johnson Jr., Pauline Johnson Achampon, Pualina Johnson, Anthony George, John Gildersleve and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins in Liberia, Sierra Leone, the USA and around the world.
A thanksgiving service for his life will be held on April 25th, at the First United Methodist Church on Ashmond Street, Monrovia, Liberia.
Burial will be held in his home county of Rivercess County.
