The Jones and Washington Families are saddened to announce the peaceful homegoing of Rev. Dr. Charles Henry Jones, Jr. Born in Liberia to the union of Rev. & Mrs. Charles H. Jones, Sr. (Comfort Leona Pearce), a church planter, evangelist, pastor, and musician.
Educated at Harper Elementary Demonstration School, Harper, Maryland County, Liberia; Ricks Institute, Zodokai, Virginia, Montserrado County, Liberia. Charles was Valedictorian of The Class of 1976, Etoile Filante. Served as Captain of the Teen Time Bible Quiz; a Member of The Life Service Band, a Counselor of The Royal Ambassadors, Secretary of Washington Chapel Baptist Church and Administrative Assistant, Ricks Institute; a founding member of The Seminary Quartet, Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary (LBTS) Alumni Association in the US and a stalwart supporter of LBTS, a project of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc. (LBM&EC).
Earned his Bachelor of Theology (Summa Cum Laude) from the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980; Master of Divinity, (M.Div.,1990) from Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University, a school The American Baptist Home Mission Society had founded 123 years earlier in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Charles also earned The Master of Arts (M.A., 1992) from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education now called Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, Virginia.
Called to Ministry – Rev. Charles H. Jones, Jr. was ordained in 1980 by First Baptist Church (FBC), Oldest Congo Town, Liberia. And served as Pastor of FBC. Charles faithfully served The International Ministries (IM) American Baptist, Area Director Africa, Europe and the Middle East, 1997 – 2025. His love for his Master was reflected in the way he loved and served others with humility and generosity. Music and Poetry have been central in Maima and Charles’ life and witness. In 2021, Charles wrote and published the book: “I Have A Song.”
Married and Survived– Charles Henry and Maima Washington Jones, high school friends and prayer partners were married in1980. Their union has been blessed with Five Children: Cleopatra Jones Rightnour(William), Charma Jones, Mamuyan Jones Resch(David), Maima Jones and Eli Jones; Seven Grandchildren: Dion Cole, Diondre Cole, Dionte Cole, D’Angelo Cole, Jabali Rivers, Magnolia Resch and Kiora Resch, and a host of other beloved children who call them Mom and Dad. Charles Henry Jones, Jr.’s five siblings include: Charlene Jones, Melvina Jones, Melvin Jones, James Jones and Thomas Jones. We give thanks to God for the faithful life, service and witness of Rev. Dr. Charles Henry Jones, Jr. “Somewhere in glory you will find me.”
