The Liberian community deeply regrets to announce the passing of the late Edwin Garmi, who peacefully transitioned on July 31, 2026, following a prolonged illness. Mr. Garmi was a steadfast supporter of his community and a loyal friend to many. He was greatly admired for his brilliance in the field of mathematics and for the generosity, wisdom, and commitment he shared throughout his life. During the years of the Liberian civil crisis, he remained a devoted advocate in the struggle for peace and stability in his homeland, consistently supporting initiatives aimed at its renewal and transformation.
A graduate of the Lutheran Training Institute (LTI) in Lofa County, Liberia, the late Edwin Garmi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Liberia. While in U.S. he obtained an MSc degree in Statistics and held positions at Riggs Bank and Montgomery County Schools. He leaves to mourn his passing a host of friends, colleagues, and associates within the Liberian community throughout the United States. He is survived by his sister, Luopu Garmi Blackie of Monrovia, Liberia.

The Liberian Community and friends are rallying to raise funds for the homegoing of the late Mr Edwin Garmi. Edwin, a friend to many and a loyal member of our community passed after a debilitating illness no available family in the U.S. His illness depleted his finances, leaving nothing to cover the cost of his final arrangements. We are therefore soliciting the support of our entire Community and Friends to ensure that he is appropriately buried with love and honor.
