With heavy hearts, the Jones, Ansumana, and Dennis families announce the homegoing of Frances Maima Ansumana Jones, who earned her wings and went to be with the Lord in her 70th year on December 12, 2025, in New York City, New York.
Frances (or Auntie Pudding as she was affectionately nicknamed by her family) was born in Monrovia, Liberia to Francis Edward Ansumana and Annie Catherine Dennis Ansumana on November 28, 1955. She attended Monrovia College and Industrial High School and graduated in 1973. She later earned Bachelor’s degrees in Economics from the University of Liberia and Boston University. Education mattered deeply to her—not simply as a credential, but as protection, empowerment, and possibility. She believed knowledge was a responsibility and she lived that belief daily.
Beyond her family, Frances was deeply committed to building her community. She was a proud and active member of the Monrovia College Alumni Association of the Americas (MCAAA), serving faithfully in several leadership roles, including National Treasurer.
Frances is survived by her amazing daughters Deddeh Ansumana Jones, Lorpu Maima Jones and Shyloe Katherine Musu Jones, sisters Ida Ma Musu Ansumana, Victoria Ansumana Carter and Margaret Ansumana, sister-in-law Jatu Lavelah Travers, and brothers-in-law Benjamin D. Carter and Rubel Travers. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gbessi Killiwe Jones, parents Francis Edwards Ansumana and Annie Catherine Dennis Ansumana and sisters Edith Ansumana, Catherine Ansumana and Annette Ansumana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and esteemed members of the Monrovia College Alumni Association of the Americas.
Frances’ wings were ready, but our hearts were not. Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, the work she and her husband began lives on through their daughters—through the values they instilled, the resilience they modeled, and the love they gave without condition.
Frances Maima Ansumana Jones will forever remain in our hearts. May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace, reunited with those who went before her.
