With deep gratitude and reverence to God, the Lewis, Johnson and their extended families announce the sudden death of their beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Uncle and cousin, Deacon Jefferson D. Lewis, an educator and God’s servant on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Liberia. Deacon Lewis was not only a cherished father to his family, but a respected leader in Star Baptist Church and the Jacob town community in Paynesville, Liberia. As the former Head of the West African Examinations Council in Liberia (WAEC), PA Lewis dedicated his life to education and the empowerment of countless individuals across Liberia and the west African region. His commitment to education and service to others left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Deacon Lewis is remembered for his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support for his family, friends and community members. He had a unique ability to inspire others with his words and deeds, always encouraging those around him to strive for excellence. The legacy of Deacon Lewis will live on through the many lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father George N. Lewis, his mother Yeiyei W. Lewis and his son Kowee J. Lewis. He leaves to continue his legacy 10 children, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of relatives and friends who will forever treasure the memories of his laughter, guidance, and love. He will be greatly missed but always be remembered in our hearts.
