Heaven has gained a faithful soul as the Wilson family announces the passing of our beloved Patriarch, the Honorable Abraham (Abe) Kla Wilson. He entered eternal rest, peacefully at home with his wife, Effie Diggs Wilson by his side.
Abe was born to the Grebo union of James Himie Wilson and Agnes Wahyneh Wilson, in Cape Palmas, Liberia, West Africa. A man of deep faith, he lived every day guided by his walk with Christ. His love, sacrifice, and service to others reflected his devotion to the Lord. He and Effie shared 45 wonderful years of marriage, building a life in the United States and raising a family – his greatest pride and joy. Abe worked tirelessly, never complaining, always providing. He later retired from Southwest Airlines where he formed lasting friendships and a second family.
Abe’s joy for life was infectious. His warmth and laughter brought light to every room. He loved The Three Stooges, cartoons, a good hat, and fish of every kind. He immersed himself in classic Westerns where themes of courage, grit, and honor were virtues he lived by. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he cheered them on through every season. The family always joked that Abe was consistent in two things: faith in God and faith that the Cowboys will get it right next year. He was an active and dedicated member of the Liberian Community Association of DFW (LCA-DFW) as well as the National Maryland County Association of Liberia USA (NAMCAL-USA).
He is predeceased by his parents, Mr. James and Mrs. Agnes Wilson, three brothers: Emmanuel Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Robert Wilson, and sister Agnes Wilson.
Abe is survived by his cherished wife, Effie Diggs Wilson, his beloved sister Annie Blay, his seven children: Nassau Wilson (Rekita), Shonta Klade’ Giovannitti (Nick), Gbeneh Chandler, Renee Wahyneh Wilson, Sakon Himiede Wilson, Ashley Kim Wilson, Gail Klanesha Wilson, his twelve grandchildren: Triniti Wilson, Tavia Wilson, Toria Wilson, Prestin Wilson, Santiago Giovannitti, Miguel Giovannitti, Xavier Giovannitti, Senaya Chandler, Avondre Chandler, James Abe Freeman, Penelope Sidatt, Luke Abraham Wilson, *Barnxby Wilson, his two great-grandchildren: Lia Wilson, Olivia Davison, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the USA and Liberia.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, humor, and hard work. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. We rejoice in knowing he is now at peace, resting in the arms of his savior.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me.” –
2 Timothy 4:6-8
