Judas infamous for his betrayal of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, is remembered in our tradition on Good Friday in a unique manner.
In our hometown of Monrovia, a cherished tradition involves the creation of an effigy representing Judas. This effigy symbolizes mankind’s disdain for Judas’ betrayal of Jesus Christ. As children growing up in the vibrant and pristine streets of Monrovia, we eagerly participated in this tradition.
At the stroke of noon, most of us as children in Monrovia would gather to enact the symbolic punishment of Judas by beating the effigy with sticks. This tradition served as a tangible expression of our collective condemnation of Judas’ actions and our reverence for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday holds profound significance for Christians worldwide. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and marks a pivotal moment in Christian theology. This day reminds believers of the sacrificial love of Christ, the triumph of goodness over evil, and the power of redemption and renewal.
As Christians, when we contemplate the significance of Good Friday, we are called to embody Christ’s love, seek repentance, and embrace the promise of new life. In doing so, we can find hope, meaning, and purpose in our journey of faith.
Happy Good Friday and God’s blessings…
