Monrovia โ The Interim Management Team of the Liberia Electricity Corporation on lateย Wednesday evening announced a 85 percent cut from its power supplier inย Ivory Coast.
โThe Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) regrets to inform the public that ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ด๐ป๐ถ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ผ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฑโร๐น๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐รฉ (๐๐๐), our power supplier under the Power Purchase Agreement, has requested an emergency load reduction ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ด๐ฑ% ๐ฑ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐,โ the Acting LEC Management Team wrote.
It added: โAs a result, the power supply from CIE to LEC has been reduced from ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐.๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐๐.โ
According to the team, the adjustment is necessary to ensure the long-term stability and efficiency of the company,
The reduction in supply will affect electricity distribution in Monrovia and surrounding areas, leading to power outages beyond the normal schedule,โ LEC said.
LEC added that in response to this unprecedented reduction, it has activated its thermal power plant to help mitigate the shortfall.
According to the team at LEC, the contribution from the thermal power plant remains minimal in bridging the energy gap, especially as the water level at the Mt. Coffee Hydropower Plant continues to decline, rendering the facility incapable of generating adequate electricity.
โWe sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation during this period. We assure the public that LEC remains in close communication with CIE and will provide timely updates as the situation progresses,โ LEC said.
