With profound sorrow, we inform you of the death of our dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Mr. Francis O. Nyeekpee, Sr. (affectionately called Oshio). He died peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 3:10 PM GMT in the Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County, Liberia, West Africa. We feel at peace knowing that he can rest now. He lived an amazing life, especially during the early stage of his life. In 1974, he graduated from St. Martin’s Elementary and Junior High School in Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia, West Africa. The same year, while at St. Martins, Oshio played basketball and led his team to win the first-place trophy in the Upcountry Junior High School Tournament. The following year in 1975, Oshio enrolled at St. Mary’s High School in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, where he graduated from high school.
Similarly, he led the St. Mary’s basketball team to win first place in her first Upcountry Basketball Tournament in 1977. He was a fierce center among his peers on the basketball court. Upon graduation from St. Mary’s High School, he traveled to the United States, enrolled, and obtained a BSc and MSc in Agriculture Engineering from Prairie View A&M University in Texas and MA in Organizational Development and Leadership from University of the Rockies. Oshio was born to the union of Geneiyouweh and Kolliemeelen Nyeekpee and is survived by a host of relatives including Francis O. Nyeekpee, Jr. (son), daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of beloved relatives, and friends in the United States and Liberia. He was a fighter, an honorable man, a great man, a man who battled Multiple Myeloma (Cancer) for over 14 years.
Thank you for your counsel and guidance during this challenging time. Your wisdom and support were very much appreciated. You brought light and comfort to our family and friends during this very difficult time. We pray that Oshio’s soul, and those of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.
