The Morris, Pearce, Taylor families regretfully mourn the loss of their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin, Cecelia Adelaide “Bigsister” Pearce-Morris, the Wife of the late Hon. Dr. Joseph Getehmnah Morris Sr, former Liberian Ambassador to the Republics of Sierra Leone and the Gambia 1978-1984 and former President of the University of Liberia from August 1984 – October 1987. Cecelia was a graduate of the University of Liberia. She died in her 88th year at approximately 12:53 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2023, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her family by her side.
Bigsister, as she was affectionately called by the many who knew her, passed away from a prolonged illness. The late Cecelia Adelaide Morris was born on March 16, 1935, to the union of Rachel Konokpa Taylor and Samuel Pearce in Crozierville, Montserrado County, Liberia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph G. Morris Sr.; her sons Arthur, Alexander Sr., Cecil, and Dr. Joseph G. Morris Jr.; her daughter Lucia C. Fahnbulleh; and her siblings, Hannah, and Samuel Taylor.
Cecelia is survived by her children, Clement K. Morris (Patricia Russell-Morris), Charlene K. Tarpeh (Prof. Wilson K. Tarpeh), Rachel S. Morris, Genelaide G. Morris, Barbara N. Morris (James E. Qualah, I); siblings, Lewis Taylor, Sr. (Sundayway Taylor), Laurine Taylor-Cisco (Edwin Cisco), 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other elatives in Liberia, the United States, and all over the world.
Bigsister will be remembered for touching the lives of many people with her smile and maintaining her trademark sense of humor, compassionate heart, sharp mouth, strictness, style, and elegance all the way to the end. Many will remember Bigsister as a Mother and Big Sister of All.
